Growth factors have become increasingly popular over the last few years, especially in the field of hair restoration. Hair growth injections are a non-surgical, therapeutic treatment that can offer many benefits to patients suffering from hair loss. The regenerative treatment is used to help stop hair loss, thicken existing hairs, and assist with hair regrowth in areas of thinning.
It’s important to note that hair loss occurs differently in each person, so individual results vary. Growth factors offer the average hereditary hair loss patient the following benefits:
Non-surgical, autologous treatment for thinning hair
No risk of rejection or allergic reaction
Minimally invasive procedure
No scalpel, stitches or suturing
Can repair and replenish damaged hair follicles
Enhances the healing process in cells and tissues
Increases blood supply to hair follicles and scalp
May regenerate new hair growth for a variety of scalp conditions, including alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia
Can stabilize the hair loss cycle for an extended period of time
Often used in addition to other hair transplant procedures for optimal hair growth results
No sedation, medication, or recovery time required

What Are Growth Factors?
Growth factors are proteins naturally found in the human body that are secreted from platelets. These growth factors substantially aid in the healing process and accelerate new cell growth. Recent research studies have shown that these growth factors may not only promote the regrowth of dormant hair follicles, but can also help fight further hair loss from occurring.
Hair Growth Injections
Hair growth injections are a non-surgical, autologous procedure. This simply means that the cells come from the patient’s own body rather than from an outside source. Due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, growth factor injections do not require any stitches or suturing. Most of our patients report minimal discomfort during and after their sessions. However, a local anesthesia can be applied to the injection area to ensure no discomfort for the patient.
The hair treatment is a three-step procedure in which the patient’s blood is drawn, separated, and injected back into the area affected by hair loss. Growth factors are produced by drawing the patient’s blood through a simple blood test. The platelets containing growth factors are separated from the rest of the blood product using a centrifuge system. The growth factors are placed into a very thin syringe, and injected back into the patient’s scalp to promote new hair growth. Hair growth injections take approximately an hour per session. Depending on which stage of hair loss the patient is in, multiple treatments may be required in order to achieve desired results.
How Do Growth Factors Work For Hair Loss?
Once injected, the potent growth factors will assist in tissue repair and cell regeneration. These growth factors work by stimulating dormant or damaged hair follicles into the anagen phase of the hair cycle (growth cycle). Once activated, they will begin repairing tissues and accelerate the body’s healing capabilities even further. This can aid in hair thickening, regrowth, and the prevention of further hair loss.
On average, patients can begin to see positive changes within 2 to 3 months from the initial treatment. The most noticeable hair regrowth is usually seen between 3 and 4 months. Many patients choose to come into our Hair Restoration Center for another session about every 6-12 months.
