Dr. Michael Markou is the founder of Tampa Bay Hair Restoration, established in 1994. With over 30 years of hands-on experience, he is one of the most accomplished and respected experts in the field of hair restoration, known both locally and globally for his groundbreaking work.
As a true pioneer in the industry, Dr. Markou was instrumental in early research with Merck Pharmaceuticals, helping to bring finasteride to market as the first FDA-approved oral medication for hair loss. He was also among the first physicians worldwide to use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to treat hair thinning and loss. Additionally, his innovative research was the first published study to show that low-level laser therapy could increase hair tensile strength, significantly advancing non-surgical treatment options.
Dr. Markou also developed and trademarked his own line of hair restoration products under the name NEO SOMA®. The products include a physician-formulated shampoo, conditioner, topical spray, and vitamin supplement—all designed to support healthier, fuller hair from the inside out.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Markou is a family man. He has been married for over 30 years and is the proud father of three: two daughters who are veterinary physicians and a son who works as a professional dog groomer.
